Over a period of time Comms Design came to realise a requirement from an Engineering perspective to monitor our products in use around rail routes in Scotland that are utilising our Digital In-Cab Signalling solution. In particular, we needed to visually see when our Request to Stop product received a live timetable downloaded over the internet to best support our customers’ needs and understand if there was a fault on the system.
Using the expert software engineering capabilities from within the business, we were able to develop a monitoring system to ascertain when the remote connection to a Request to Stop kiosk is lost, impacting the daily timetable download being made.
Since its inception the Top Level Monitoring System has been further developed and now allows the Comms Design engineering team to see the status of the Request to Stop kiosks in more detail, including connection status and live performance metrics.
In the future, the TLMS will be able to monitor all Comms Design assets, providing deep insights in the performance of systems as well as helping to diagnose problems before they manifest as faults.
